Applying for Registration as a Dentist
in the General Dental Scope of Practice

For holders of prescribed dental degrees or a pass in an appropriate dental licensing examination

New Zealand qualified or NZDREX qualified applicants

If you hold a prescribed qualification that has been completed in New Zealand you need to complete a registration form and return this to the Dental Council together with the necessary documentation and fees. Please contact the Dental Council for a copy of the relevant registration form. In addition, you are required to provide three professional references (Form R001).

Holders of overseas prescribed qualifications

If you hold a prescribed qualification that has been completed outside of New Zealand you need to firstly apply for eligibility to register. To do so you need to complete Form ELIG005 and send this application with the required fees and documentation to the Dental Council. In addition, you are required to provide three professional references (Form R001). Overseas-trained practitioners are also required to read the New Zealand Conditions of Practice Resource Book.

The Dental Council will consider your application on an individual basis. If the Council is satisfied that you are eligible to apply for registration you will be issued with an eligibility letter, stating that you are eligible to apply for registration. To apply for registration you are required to complete Form REG002, which will be sent to you with the letter.

The correct fees must accompany your ELIG005 and REG002 applications. Please refer to the fees schedule for current fees.
