Annual practising certificates (APCs)

We are approaching a new annual practising cycle for oral health therapists, dental hygienists, dental therapists, clinical dental technicians, dental technicians and orthodontics auxiliaries.

You will receive detailed instructions from us in due course, but for now here are some key points.

Dates

Early February - If you hold a practising certificate and are required to complete the recertification programme, your peer will receive an email request to complete their confirmation that you have been participating in the programme.

Late February/early March - You will receive an email prompting you to renew your practising intentions and to pay the annual practising certificate or retention fee. You will also be asked to declare whether or not you have been participating in the recertification programme.

27 March - Please submit your application and make payment by 27 March due to Easter.

Friday 29 March to Monday 1 April 2024 are non-business days due to the Easter public holidays, which impacts both our and the banks processing times.

31 March - Is the last day you can practise with your current APC which expires on this date.

If your new APC has not been issued by 31 March 2024, you must cease practising until you hold a valid APC.

Quick tips

  • All registered oral health practitioners (practising and non-practising) must complete the annual practising intention form

  • Payments made via the online portal using credit/debit card or the Account2Account option require the least processing time

  • Once the practising intention renewal forms are released, you can use the link emailed to you or go straight to the 'Practising intentions (APC)' tile in your practitioner portal

  • You are solely responsible for your fee payment. Bulk payments from employers cannot be accepted. Any reimbursement arrangements are a matter between the employee and employer

  • You will receive an email confirming your annual practising status once your application has been processed

  • Not all registered oral health practitioners have to complete the recertification programme. For example, if you are newly registered in the last six months. If you're unsure if you need to complete the programme, refer to the recertification programme handbook.
